Default Massachusetts In Freefall.....

Spouse here -

We received an email today from a married same-sex couple who have been married for two years and together for thirty-eight. They raised several children.

When the Goodridge decision was announced in November, 2003 with the usual six month waiting period and the fights since March of 2004, the theocons have been successful in the following:

1) Won the first Constitutional Convention vote and said that marriage laws would be passed by referendum in November, 2006.

2) Romney's use of the racist 1913 law to deny marriage to out-of-state same sex couples. Now the same Judicial Supreme Court has upheld the decision.

3) A recall petition with theocon roots and filled with all sorts of recorded fraud, passes - calling for a Constitutional Convention that would remove ALL rights for same-sex couples. The same Judicial Supreme Court upheld the challenge by GLAD to void the recall petition, and allows the Constitutional Convention. The law says that all they need is 50 delegate votes rather than double and more that amount to place it on the ballot in 2008.

The political insider pundits said that generalised apathy and lack of passion against the opponents, coupled with virulent enemies and tepid allies, it seems that the only legal marriage in MA will first be abolished, and then, the repentant allies will be allowed to have a civil union statute like their neighbours.

What happened to the Supreme Judicial justices who gave your nation a Goodridge victory? They were hung in effigy and their entire lives under the scrutiny of the right wing. Since then, they have voted FOR the theocons' agenda since.

"I'm so angry, I could just spit." (it's a movie quote)

More seriously...

I am angry and I don't think we aren't taking this threat to our lives and families seriously.

The religious right can scream and holler and talk ugly and pass laws and ammendments all they want to about gay marriage. But like it or not, it's coming. It may take a few years...but it's coming.

I mean, think about it. After years of struggling for gay marriage rights, are we someday just going to sit down and say, "Well, I guess we may as well just give up about having equal rights with marriage so it looks like they win,"...?

LOL...yeah, right.

It's coming.

Default Two Canadians Say:

Attaboy, brother.....

Yet we must admonish you that if you lose your only beachhead of same sex marriage, then you will risk a national attempt to codify a lesser provision ( half or less without adoption rights ) of civil rights and pass the FMA in order to receive it.

You see, I believe that the strategy of nihilism - no rights WHATSOEVER - is a negotiary tool. The theocon leaders know that the ultimate fairness gene of the American people will not allow this, despite the zealots who truly believe their leaders, and truly want to remove all rights.

Their focus is especially on adoption rights. You see, they know and understand the " socialisation and normalisation" aspect of seeing same-sex couples raising children - especially men. It skewers their views on patriarchalism and heterosexism. It provides another positive contradiction to their portrayal of all heterosexuals as moral bastions while keeping Hugh Heffner and his minions in their castle closet; while perpetuating the myth that all gays are sex-crazed individuals who live a LIFESTYLE by CHOICE and who frustrate their NATURAL LAW DESIRE to live a life as a heterosexual.

When the Netherlands and Belgium won their rights in 2001 and 2002, they had to compromise with the Right and Extreme Right parties to deny adoption and surrogacy rights. In other words, these homos can have it, but with all sorts of strings to PROTECT THE CHILDREN.

Canada and Spain rejected the SAME FASCIST AGENDA and adoption is legal and was from the inception. A more weakened FAR RIGHT parliamentary reality has fortunately removed the Adoption Proscription in the Netherlands and Belgium.

BTW-Rick - The House of Prada is a luxury design house, with reference to the PapaFuhrer or Papa Ratzi's new shoes. I think that the self-hating prelate has challenged J.Edgar Hoover for their shared love interest - in sartorial splendour.
