James Madison University: 2011

Soulforce is proud to be partnering with Madison Equality to present:

A Soulforce Symposium at James Madison University!

The event takes place on April 12th, 2012 and will include a full day of events and activities being co-hosted by Soulforce and Madison Equality.  This day will be a part of Madison Equality’s larger event: GayMU Week.

Madison Equality is the LGBTQ student association at James Madison University.

The day will begin with a special presentation by Dr. Christine Robinson: The Politics of the Ex-Gay Movement. This presentation is an adaptation of Dr. Robinson very successful workshop at the Philadelphia Symposium in November of 2010.

Following Dr. Robinson’s Presentation we will head into the panel on Intersectional justice. This Panel is a key component of the Soulforce Symposium Circuit. The discussion will focus on how to build inclusive justice movements that dismantle oppression at its intersections (i.e. where race, class, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, etc. all meet).

The day’s events will culminate in a special performance by Peterson Toscano. His performance will be preceded by an hour of open mic to showcase some of JMU’s extraordinarily talented students. The open mic hour will be hosted by Jennifer K. Luu, a professional storyteller from the DC area, and 2010 Equality Ride alumna.

You can RSVP for the symposium at JMU on the Facebook event page! Also look for blog updates, pictures, and video uploads all day on the 12 and 13!
