The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power launched in March of 1987. Describing themselves as ”a diverse, non-partisan group of individuals united in anger and committed to direct action to end the AIDS crisis”, ACT-UP forever changed the face of HIV/AIDS activism with their provocative and unforgettable style of nonviolent civil disobedience.
In cooperation with several other contributing organizations, ACT-UP New York recently founded the Act Up Oral History, a collection of interviews with surviving members of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, New York. http://www.actuporalhistory.org/
** Nonviolence4Equality.org would like to thank Wendy Sue Biegeleisen, Membership Coordinator of S.A.M.E. (San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality), for bringing these resources to our attention so that they could be included in this website.
