This is How We Fight Back

Once upon a time... There was a sweet little girl named CC who grew up in a Christian land with a Christian family. The ruler of that world was a cruel man named King Christian Supremacy III. Christian had two brothers who were kings of nearby lands, King Heteropatriarchal Supremacy and King White Supremacy. The three brothers were very close and vowed to one another that they would make sure that the laws in each of their lands were similar enough that, no matter which land a person moved to, that person would be controlled in the same way and held to the same expectations. At the World AIDS Conference Interfaith Pre-Conference in Durban, South Africa this past weekend, the new UNAIDS number-based goal being touted in order to eradicate HIV/AIDS is 90-90-90. This same month, while the tears and wounds are still fresh, California’s Christian college elite have l

During the spring, Soulforce provided 4 different workshops in nonviolence, direct action, and civil disobedience to church communities seeking greater confidence in difficult conversations on fossil fuels, poverty, racism, and homo/bi/transphobia in the Church. The impetus was the United Methodist Church General Conference in Portland, May 10 - 20, 2016, but folks from several traditions participated. We tried out a new thing as trainers, and I want to share it with you here, because it hit that sweet spot of learning complex and nuanced information while laughing about life and ourselves along the way. It’s called the Merit Badge Exercise. Soulforce is a values-driven organization, a
